V Safe Pregnancy Registry

V Safe Pregnancy Registry

is a web-based, voluntary registry of pregnancies that have occurred in women who are using Viread (tenofovir disoproxil fumarate) and Truvada (emtricitabine/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate) for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent HIV infection. The registry is open to all women who are using Viread or Truvada for PrEP, whether they are pregnant or not. The registry is a way for us to learn more about how these medications are affecting pregnancies.

The V Safe Pregnancy Registry is important because it is the only way to learn about the safety of Viread and Truvada for PrEP during pregnancy. There are very few pregnancies that have occurred in women who are using Viread and Truvada for PrEP, so we need information from as many women as possible to be able to know whether these medications are safe for use during pregnancy.

Participation in the V Safe Pregnancy Registry is voluntary. You do not have to participate if you do not want to. If you decide to participate, we will ask you to provide information about yourself and your pregnancy. We will also ask you to provide information about the health of your baby after he or she is born.

The V Safe Pregnancy Registry is a research study. This means that the information you provide will be used to learn more about the safety of Viread and Truvada for PrEP during pregnancy. The information you provide will not be used to find out whether you are HIV-positive or not.

The V Safe Pregnancy Registry is being conducted by the University of Pittsburgh. The University of Pittsburgh is a research institution that is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct research studies.
