What to Expect with Pregnancy Belly 17 Weeks
Pregnancy is a unique and often wonderful experience for many women. As the unborn baby grows inside the woman, the shape and size of the woman’s belly changes dramatically. At its peak, the belly can really expand, giving the impression of a full-term pregnancy. At 17 weeks, many women are just beginning to round out in the circumference of their bellies.
The Size of Your Baby at 17 Weeks
At 17 weeks, your baby is already the size of a large lemon. The baby’s body length is around 5.3 inches and the weight is almost 4 ounces. The baby’s arms and legs are better developed, and the fingers have reached their full length.
How Pregnant Women Can Measure Their Belly
Pregnancy bellies can vary greatly, but to get an approximate measurement, a woman can measure the circumference around her belly just above the hipbone. This measurement is typically around the same size as the circumference around the belly button, which can help determine how your belly size relates to the baby’s growth.
Changes to Expect as Your Pregnancy Continues
At 17 weeks, your baby will continue to grow and your belly will continue to expand. As the baby starts to gain more weight, the belly may become more rounded and start to feel harder. Your belly may also feel quite tight, making it difficult to move around.
The size of the belly will increase considerably over the next few weeks and months. You will likely feel much more ‘filled out’ by the time you get to your due date.
Tips for Managing the Changes in Your Pregnancy Belly
- Wear comfortable clothing. Make sure your clothes are comfortable and allow for plenty of room to stretch and move. Consider investing in clothing specifically designed for pregnant women that will allow your belly to expand.
- Stay hydrated. It is important to stay hydrated throughout your pregnancy. Drink plenty of water to help keep your body and your baby properly hydrated.
- Maintain a healthy diet. Nutrition is key to a healthy pregnancy. Ensure you are eating plenty of healthy proteins, vegetables, and fruits, and eating smaller meals throughout the day.
- Get plenty of rest. Get plenty of rest, especially as your belly continues to grow and become heavy. Your body needs plenty of rest in order to continue doing the amazing job of growing your baby.
Regardless of the shape and size of your pregnancy belly, it is important to consult with your healthcare provider if you have any concerns. Enjoy this amazing time in your life, as it is a very special moment.
