##Itchiness In Breast During Pregnancy
Pregnancy is an exciting time in a woman’s life, but with those joys come some minor and sometimes uncomfortable side-effects. One of the more common discomforts is itchy breasts. Itchiness can be a burden while expecting, especially if no clear cause can be found.
###What Causes Itchiness in the Breast?
While there are a few possible explanations for why your breasts may be itching, the most likely answer is very simple—your pregnancy hormones. As your body is producing more of the hormones progesterone and estrogen during pregnancy, it can cause the skin around the breasts to stretch. To keep up with the stretching skin, your body begins to make more skin cells. This increase in skin cell production can cause the itchy feeling.
One other possible cause for itchy breasts is contact dermatitis. If you’ve recently switched up your bras or laundry detergent, the friction from clothing or the chemicals from a laundry detergent may be the culprit.
###What Can I Do To Relieve the Itching?
If your itchy breasts are due to pregnancy hormones, there is not much you can do to stop them. But there are ways to offer some relief:
* Wear loose-fitting clothes to reduce friction.
* Place cold, wet cloths over your breasts when you’re feeling extra itchy.
* Use moisturizer on your breasts and around your nipples.
* Take an oatmeal bath.
It is not uncommon to experience a bit of itching near your nipples, especially during the third trimester. This is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about!
If the itchiness is excessive or you cannot find the root cause, it is best to consult a doctor. They will be able to accurately diagnose the issue and help you find a solution.
During pregnancy it is common to have a few discomforts, and itchy breasts do not need to ruin the joys of expecting. By understanding what is causing this uncomfortable side-effect, you can find ways to properly manage and relieve the itching to make being pregnant even more pleasant.
Most importantly, enjoy your pregnancy and the miracle of growing your bundle of joy!
What causes breast itchiness during pregnancy?
Breast itchiness during pregnancy is typically caused by the natural increase in estrogen and progesterone levels, which can cause the breasts to become enlarged and sensitive to touch. The increased levels of hormones can also cause the skin to become dry, making it more prone to itchiness. Additional causes can include irritation from certain fabrics such as wool, sweat, and detergents, and a skin condition called eczema.
