Procedure
Egg retrieval is a procedure that is used to collect eggs from a woman’s ovaries. The eggs are then used in fertility treatments, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF).
The egg retrieval process typically begins with the woman taking injectable hormones to stimulate her ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Once the eggs are mature, she will undergo a minor surgical procedure to have them collected.
The eggs are collected through a small incision in the woman’s abdomen. A thin tube is inserted into the ovary, and the eggs are suctioned out. The procedure typically lasts less than 30 minutes, and the woman can usually go home the same day.
Egg retrieval is a safe and relatively simple procedure. However, there are some risks associated with it, including infection, bleeding, and damage to the ovaries.
If you are considering fertility treatments, speak with your doctor about whether egg retrieval is the right option for you.
Myomectomy Fertility
Preservation
A myomectomy is a surgical procedure to remove uterine fibroids. Fibroids are benign growths that can form in the uterus. Myomectomy fertility preservation is a term used to describe the use of myomectomy surgery to preserve fertility.
There are several reasons why myomectomy surgery may be used for fertility preservation. First, myomectomy surgery may be used to remove fibroids that are located in the area where the embryo implants or grows. Removing these fibroids may improve the chances of success for fertility treatments such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). Second, myomectomy surgery may be used to remove fibroids that are causing problems with implantation or growth of the embryo. For example, fibroids that are large or located in the uterus near the opening of the cervix can cause problems with implantation of the embryo. Third, myomectomy surgery may be used to remove fibroids that are causing heavy menstrual bleeding.
There are several different techniques that can be used for myomectomy fertility preservation. The most common technique is called a laparoscopic myomectomy. This technique uses a small camera called a laparoscope to view the inside of the abdomen. The surgeon then uses small instruments to remove the fibroids. Other techniques that can be used for myomectomy fertility preservation include an open myomectomy and a robotic myomectomy.
Myomectomy fertility preservation is a relatively new procedure and there is not a lot of research on its effectiveness. However, preliminary studies suggest that myomectomy surgery may improve the chances of success for fertility treatments such as IVF.
What To Expect At First Fertility Appointment
When you go for your first fertility appointment, the doctor will likely ask you a lot of questions about your medical history and menstrual cycle. He or she will also perform a physical examination, including a pelvic exam.
The doctor will want to know the date of your last period and how long your cycles usually are. He or she will also ask about any previous pregnancies and whether you have any medical conditions or take any medications.
The doctor will also want to know about your sexual history, including the number of sexual partners you’ve had and whether you use condoms. He or she will also ask about your use of birth control and whether you’ve ever had an abortion.
The physical examination will include a pelvic exam to look for problems with the reproductive organs. The doctor may also order some tests, such as a blood test or ultrasound, to help diagnose the cause of infertility.
